ABOUT
Raneche Juvem
Raneche Juvem is an island located in Nadora village of Bardez Taluka, in the North of Goa. Geographically it measures 900mts in length and is 110mts wide. ‘Juvem’ is a Portuguese word meaning ‘island’; the ‘Raneche’ suffix is derived from the ancestral house of the Rane family situated on the eastern end of the island. Literally the island is named ‘King’s Island’ and rightly so.
Juvem is surrounded by the Chapora river and has dense coconut and arecanut palm plantations. About a hundred people inhabit the island, occupying 25 dwellings. Other structures on the island are an unused school building and a temple. Till the 1980s the only mode of access to the island was via canoes- ‘vodyo’. In 1981, the iconic structural bridge connecting the Revora village to Juvem was constructed. This bridge has been featured in many a movie and web series, like Lagey Raho Munna Bhai, Dear Zindagi, Loop Lapeta, etc.
Farm Isle endeavours to give visitors an experience of the ‘susegad’ island life. Situated on the western end of the island, Farm Isle has comfy cottages with river and farm views for a tranquil stay- an escape from the struggles of everyday life.

THINGS TO DO
While the island is small, there is a lot to be done in and around the property.
Island walk
The island is long and narrow with a road running right through the centre. Houses and orchards lie on either side of this main arterial pathway. Although most properties require permission to access, a long meandering walk along provides many surprises and glimpses into the idle village life.
Boat Trip
We have a licensed 6 seater boat with life jackets and experienced boatmen to take you on a round trip around the island. Perfect for serenades during the sunset.
Fishing
Many locals are avid hobby fishermen as the the Chapora River is rich in aquatic life. Based on the seasons, tides and water flow shrimp, mackerel, king fish, barramundi and rock crabs can be found in abundance and of course the fishermens skill. Fishing equipment can be hired at the office if one wishes to try their hand!
Leisure Activities
We have a game room with board games, ample spots to access the river (caution is advised), and seating under the palms to laze the day away. One can take a dip in the river or play cards, better yet just snooze away in a hammock.
Birds Watching
The orchards and mangroves along the river bank attract many species of birds all year round. Many migratory birds also visit to mate and nest here. Every morning you will be woken by birdsong that carries on late into early noon. Bats and owls can also be spotted at Nighttime. As you cross the bridge to enter Farm Isle, glittering kingfishers will greet you as they hunt for fish. So be prepared with your binoculars and cameras for some amazing shots of birds.
Unwind
If you wish to disconnect with the hubbub of the world and just take in a moment at a time, look no further. Let the breeze carry your worries away while you lie under the palm trees with a glass of Urraq or kokum soda and let us cater to you with home cooked local Goan food made with the cash of the day. Indulge in a bit of chitchat with locals or read the newspapers while basking in the dappled sunlight overlooking the river and just Unwind.
